I hope to find the original Halloween as well as some other original movies up on Youtube, but if not I'll watch whatever version I have that works.

If you wish to watch some Halloweenish/horror movies as well, I've found this stream via reddit: http://vaughnlive.tv/gooeylobster

Use at your own risk though...I only go to that site with Firefox and adblocker on. I don't really trust streams.

Halloween Treat Reviews: Part 2 - Candy

A lot of candy this year so I'm going to split the candy into two parts.

Brachs Classic Candy Corn - Now I actually dislike candy corn. Oh I've tried getting "into" them before but the super sweetness of candy corn makes it end up tasting chemically and bitter for me. So when I heard Brachs was different I thought I'd give them a chance. I was lied to. These, even though they promise on the box "Made with REAL HONEY" taste just as bitter and full of chemicals as the rest. I taste no honey at all, and I'm pretty good at picking up honey in sweets because I like it so much. I can't say much good about these, but they do have cute packaging. I like the black and orange of the Brachs logo and the fall leaves on the box. 3/10 because they're edible and eating one or two at a time is...ok.

Hammond Pumpkin Spice Lollipop - I picked this up at Target because I had never heard of the company before so I wanted to see if they made ok sweets and I'd never seen a PS lolly. I now know why. Maybe it's this brand but wow this was awful! Pure chemical taste! I didn't pick up any PS flavor at all only a "sweet" flavor under all the chemical bitter taste. God only knows what they put in this to make it taste that bad! 0/10 I had to brush my teeth and use mouth wash to get that nasty taste out!

Hammond Pumpkin Spice Caramel Marshmallow - Now I know what your thinking, "Why buy one of their products again if it was so bad last time?". Well I figured you couldn't screw up a caramel marshmallow THAT much. And for the most part I was...right? Upon opening it I sniffed it
and got a hint of PS smell. Taking a bite, I don't know if it sat around for a while but it was pretty hard and SUPER chewy. Now with caramel and marshmallow I guessed that but damn, this one was more chewy then any other caramel marshmallow I've had! There was no PS taste to it at all just ok caramel and cheap marshmallow taste. I won't be getting this again. 3/10 not horrible but not that great.

M&M White Chocolate Candy Corn - I love white chocolate so when I saw M&M came out with a white chocolate M&M for Halloween  I got really excited! Like I've said I dislike candy corn, so I was hoping for more white chocolate then candy corn flavor, and thankfully I got it.  These are amazing!!! So far these are the best thing I've had this season. The packaging is sort of cute, it has the red M&M (does he have a name?) dressed up as a candy corn with a barrel of candy corn colored (yellow, orange and white) M&Ms next to him with corn stocks in the background.  It has a very "harvest" theme to it rather then a Halloween or "spooky" theme. I say sort of cute because while everything is cute on the package  the face the red M&M is making is not. He looks rather angry/smug and that ruins the cute feeling. As for the M&Ms themselves, the colors are yellow, orange and white, just like a candy corn. And they all taste the same. It has a candy outer shell and a creamy rich white chocolate filling. The white chocolate is REALLY good. They're super addictive, I ended up eating half a bag before I realized it and stopped myself!
10/10 because I have no faults with these other then the stupid look on the red M&Ms face.

Halloween Treat Reviews: Part 1 - Snack Cakes

Tonight I have three small reviews for three different snack cakes. I don't claim to be the best reviewer around, so these are just my honest opinion as a Halloween season fan and a foodie.

Little Debbie Pumpkin Spice Rolls - I'm a huge fan of snack cakes and pumpkin spiced things in general as well as being a fan of another Little Debbie product called Pumpkin Delights (which I get every year!), so I thought I would love these. Man was I let down! On first glance they look good but upon opening one up I got a whiff of some cheap pumpkin spice smell. Biting into one of these things was horrible. I don't know if I got an off box but blah! The "cake" was dry and had a weird texture to it. It had very little "pumpkin spice" flavor to it at all, just an overall sweet taste. The "cream" filling over powered the snack. I'm no stranger to snack cakes and their cheap fillings, but this one was pretty gross tasting. It was very sickly sweet. I plan on dumping these in the trash. 1/10 because it's still..."edible".

Hostess Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes - Man oh man am I glad Hostess is still kicking! These suckers are really good! They might even replace my favorite Halloween snack cakes (Pumpkin Delights). But I don't think I could eat more then two. The pumpkin spice flavor is rather "sharp" tasting. It can get overpowering real quick. The appearance of the cupcake is good (love the leaf sprinkles!) and the smell is heavenly! The icing is pretty good for a snack cake. The cake is moist and flavorful and the filling is quite good as well. I went looking for these again at my local Target (I first found them at Fred Meyer) but they were sold out! If you see these grab a box! 8/10 because while it is VERY good, the pumpkin spice can overpower you. (Also didn't snap a pic of the actual cake because I forgot and ate them all lol!)

Hostess Candy Corn Cupcakes - Following the success of the pumpkin spice Cupcakes, when I only saw one box left of these on the shelf at Target I thought these were going to be a hit for sure! Not so much, I mean they're not awful like the PS Rolls from Little Debbie but, they have very little flavor and nothing to do with candy corn other then the colored sprinkles on top. The appearance of the cupcake is ok, less cute then the PS Cupcakes because no leaf sprinkles lol. The icing is fine. The cake is moist like the PS one but is lacking in any real flavor, I guess if "cake" is a flavor they nailed it. The filling is their normal filling, which is good. The only thing "special" about these things are the sprinkles and the packaging. Otherwise their just normal Cupcakes. 5/10 because they were a letdown.

October Horrorthon!

In preparation of my Horrorthon (where I will watch 31 horror/thriller movies, 1 movie per day and then post that same day my "review" on said movie.) I pulled out ALL my horror/thriller movies to make sure I had enough. Turns out I do. Now that being said, I have more then 31. So that begs the question...what will make the cut and what won't? I thought I would leave it up to anyone out there who reads this blog. I do have two rules though.

Rule 1: In this Horrorthon, I have to watch The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Shining. It's a given with me.

Rule 2: I have most of the movies on DVD but some are VHS. I'd rather watch the DVDs but if someone REALLY wants me to watch one of these movies that's on VHS I will.

Otherwise I don't care. I'll watch whatever people pick for me. It's up to you to pick what I watch and if you want to, pick what day I watch it. I do want to kick it off with Rocky Horror though.

So here's the list of horror/thriller movies I have (and if one of them doesn't fit the "horror/thriller" bill enough, tell me. Also if it doesn't have a date next to it, assume it's the original movie.):

Christine
The Evil Dead
House of 1000 Corpses
Shaun of the Dead
Ghostbusters 1
Ghostbusters 2
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Silent Hill
Death Proof
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (DVD and VHS)
Army of Darkness
Resident Evil
Resident Evil: Extinction
The Postman Always Rings Twice
The Blair Witch Project
BloodRayne
I am Legend
Planet Terror
Zombieland
28 Weeks Later
Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake)
Night of the Living Dead (Original VHS)
Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake)
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Day of the Dead (2008 remake)
Land of the Dead
Friday the 13th (2009 reboot)
Freddy vs Jason (VHS)
Rosemary's Baby
Carrie
The Shining
Misery
Psycho
Halloween (2007 remake)
Halloween H20
Halloween II
Halloween 4 (VHS)
Nightmare on Elm Street
A Nightmare on Elm Street 2 (VHS)
The Wicker Man
The Skeleton Key
Dracula (1992)
Alien
Aliens
Alien 3 (DVD and VHS)
Alien Resurrection
Demon Knight (VHS)
House on Haunted Hill (VHS)
An American Werewolf in London (VHS)
Amityville A New Generation (VHS, having never seen the Amityville movies, I'd rather not watch this yet)

Now in case something happens, such as a VHS/DVD doesn't work no matter what I try, I will pull a movie from the unchosen pile and watch that instead. I don't have high hopes for the VHS's, I've never watched them before...I just bought them at a thrift store a few months ago and forgot about them till now lol. Or if I get sick (which happens a lot with me) and I miss a day, I'll still review the movie I was supposed to, I'll just have it ready the next day, along with the other movie I was supposed to review that day.

So I leave it up to you. In the likely case that NO ONE comments (because this is still a new blog), I will be posting this list on reddit to ask for people there to vote.

Anyways tomorrow I plan on popping on some snack reviews along with some photos of said snacks. Look forward to that.

Halloween treat and decoration haul videos!

Better late then never! My phone is super slow at uploading videos to dropbox and then I have to download the videos onto my PC and then reupload them on Youtube and then edit it a little.

What a pain lol. I've never done videos (which will be obvious when you see how shaky the camera is...sorry cell phone camera.) so please keep that in mind.

First up is my decoration haul.

And then the treat haul.

I'll have to remember to keep my videos short because they take a LONG time to upload. But I don't plan on doing many videos.

So please enjoy!

My upcoming posts will be reviews on the food you saw in the treat haul video. I'll keep the types of foods grouped together so one post will be about snack cakes, another candy...and spread them out.

Also before October hits us, I'm going to make a post asking for suggestions on what horror movies to watch for my October one movie a day plan. I'll list what movies I have (I don't know if I have 31 horror/thriller movies!) and you guys can comment on what movie you'd like to see me review on what day. Or something like that!

Getting into the mood for Halloween

I've always loved Halloween, even when I was little. Some people are crazy for Christmas, I'm crazy for Halloween. I've been following the musings of another blogger called Dinosaur Dracula! and I thought, why not try my hand at sharing my own musings of Halloween, horror and other scary things?

Thus this blog was born. I won't be as creative or as great as Drac but I hope I can share my love of Halloween with others.

I'll keep the about me brief.

My name is Astor. I love movies, books, video games, sweets and food in general. While I'm not a huge fan of horror, the genre has grown on me in the last few years, mainly thanks to zombie films and games. I love anything to do with zombies, which you'll see later on when we get into October and I start posting about the movies I watch!

My plans for this blog are as follows:

- October reviews: I plan on watching 1 horror/thriller movie per day for the month of October. I'll post the list of what I plan to watch on September 30th. I'll also be throwing in some cartoon movies like Nightmare Before Christmas because it's tradition for me. After I watch the movies I'll review them on here. I don't claim to be great at reviewing things but I'll try my best!

- Horror/scary game reviews: I would do let's plays but I don't have game capturing video equipment! So I'll just do a review. Since games take longer to finish then a movie, these will be spread out more. I hope to review at least 1 or 2 games in October though!

- Food/snack reviews: This is close to my heart since I'm a foodie! I'll take pictures of the food and review it. I think this is where my reviews will shine, because I'm great at picking up tastes in food.

- Sharing my thoughts: Just in general about Halloween, horror and so on. So it won't be a blog just full of reviews lol.

Anyways for my next post I plan on sharing my recent Halloween decoration/food haul! Stay tuned for that!
